About Tom Wolfe
A third generation Montanan, Tom Wolfe, lives and works in the Beartooth Mountains of south central Montana, north of Yellowstone Park.  His oil and watercolor work reflects his deep passion for the American West.
His landscapes and depictions of American Indian life as well as that of the modern rancher and cowboy have been influenced by his own varied life experiences.  The summers of his youth were spent at his grandfather’s cabin on the Stillwater River from which he explored the local country on horseback or with a fly rod in hand.
After graduating from college with a degree in English and Art, he lived in the Alaskan bush with Athabaskan Indians where he hunted, fished, trapped, ran sled dogs, fought forest fires, and painted water colors of his  native friends. In 1981, eager to return to Montana, he mushed a team of sled dogs 3000 miles from Alaska, down the Canadian Rockies and into the Stillwater Valley.  For more than 20 years, Wolfe served as a licensed outfitter sharing his love for the backcountry with those eager to fish and hunt in the Beartooths.
Wolfe credits his two artistic parents for their early encouragement of his work. Later, he spent twelve years studying with master landscape painter Hall Diteman .  He has also enjoyed painting trips to France, Italy, Switzerland, and the Caribbean.
In 2002, Wolfe sold his outfitting business, and built a cabin and studio in the shadow of the Beartooth Mountains, where he currently lives and paints.
